Since we lost Cashew to cancer over four years ago, our daughter Danielle has been very sad, but looking forward to the responsibility to care for her “own puppy” someday. Now that she is 10 years old, we decided it was time to have Danielle experience the joy of pet ownership. It’s truly been amazing. Every day, Casey waits anxiously for Danielle to get off the school bus. She watches for the bus to pull up to the house and then rushes to the garage door to wait for her little D to enter. Danielle will throw her book bag down on the ground for wrestle time with Casey. Danielle then takes her best-friend for a walk in the neighborhood and after that, they both settle down for after-school snack. During homework, Casey lies at Danielle’s feet while she practices the piano or works on the computer. Every night before bed, Danielle has “nite-nite” story time for Casey. Danielle will read a book aloud to Casey as she lays quietly in her doggie bed and waits patiently for Danielle to show her the pictures before the pages are turned. This week, Casey is enjoying the story of Hansel and Gretel. Danielle has thanked God many times for Casey and how “the void in her life” has been filled. We thank God too!
