Teen Testifies in Teacher's Sex Trial

CINCINNATI (WKRC) -- Witnesses in the trial of a former Colerain teacher accused of having sex with students, are testifying now that opening statements are over.

Julie Hautzenroeder is charged with sexual battery. She's also accused of drinking alcohol and smoking marijuana with the two boys. During opening statements, the defense says Hautzenroeder had an inappropriate relationship with the 16-year-old boys, but not a sexual one.

Prosecutors said Hautzenroeder's friend Stephanie Kessel picked up the boys that evening and took them to Hautzenroeder's Loveland apartment.  Then Kessel left. The three moved out to the patio after Hautzenroeder's 7-year-old daughter fell asleep.

Prosecutors say the three smoked marijuana, then went into Hautzenroeder's bedroom. They undressed and prosecutors say one teen had sex with Hautzenroeder. Then she performed oral sex on the other. They spent the night and went home the next morning. The prosecutor says Hautzenroeder compared her home to Vegas, what happens there stays there.

One of the teens said to have oral sex with Hautzenroeder  testified that she supplied the marijuana and two condoms. She made them breakfast in the morning then took them home. The teen says he told Hautzenroeder that the night was a fantasy come true.

Kessel also took the stand to talk about that night. Hautzenroeder used to babysit the 19-year-old OSU student. The prosecution had to stop briefly, because Kessel teared up when talking about Hautzenroeder and her daughter.

When testimony resumed, Kessel says she didn't think anything was unusual about them coming over. She did testify that Hautzenroeder and the teens smoked marijuana. Kessel says she doesn't smoke pot.

At some point, Kessel says one of the boys went into Hautzenroeder's bedroom with her, but the door was open. She left at 10 or 11 that night, and didn't see anything sexual between Hautzenroeder and the teens.

Kessel says she kept in contact with the student she kissed. She sometimes texted him and saw him when she visited Hautzenroeder at the school.

When the defense questioned Kessel, she admitted to lying to investigators about how long she was at Hautzenroeder's home. She says she was uncomfortable talking about it in front of her parents. Kessel also says she kissed one of the teens, while the other was in Julie's bedroom.

We'll have more on the testimony throughout the day.
