Bearcats Legaux & Washington receive eligibility extension waivers

CINCINNATI (WKRC) -- Two University of Cincinnati football student-athletes, QB Munchie Legaux (New Orleans, La./Edna Karr) and WR Shaq Washington (Maple Hts., Ohio/Maple Hts.) received eligibility extension waivers from the American Athletic Conference office, the league announced Wednesday.

Legaux will have one year of eligibility remaining while Washington will have two seasons left. Both applications for hardship waivers were approved in accordance with NCAA Bylaw 14.2.4.

Legaux suffered a season-ending knee injury in UC's game at Illinois on Sept. 7, 2013. He had dropped back to pass and was tackled below the knees and his left leg bent awkwardly. The ensuing hyperextension of the knee resulted in injury to several ligaments. There were no fractures or additional injuries.

In 31 career games, Legaux has thrown for nearly 3,000 yards (2,847), going 205-for-396 with 20 touchdowns. He has averaged 5.5 yards per rush, adding seven TDs and 627 yards on the ground.

Washington was limited to four games his freshman season in 2011 due to injury. He had a breakout campaign in 2013, tallying the fifth-best single-season effort in UC history with 78 receptions.

His catches went for 783 yards and a TD. He also saw time at QB, throwing a TD pass at Rutgers and averaging 13.4 yards per carry on the ground, scoring a TD in the Belk Bowl against North Carolina.

Cincinnati finished the 2013 season with a 9-4 mark in Head Coach Tommy Tubervilles first season. The Bearcats are scheduled to begin the NCAA allowed 15-practice spring session on Feb. 28, 2014.
