Local Crisis Center named Purple Purse partner

COVINGTON, Ky. (Perry Schaible) -- If you give money to the Women's Crisis Center in northern Kentucky this September of 2014, it could help the organization win hundreds of thousands of dollars in prize money.

The local agency has been chosen as one of only 200 organizations to participate in this contest. It's funded by the Allstate Foundation.

The contest starts Wednesday and continues through Oct. 8.

Selected agencies compete for more than $500,000 in prize money.

There are added incentives for the organization that raises the most money from the community during this time period.

Victoria Parks, Director of Development at the WCC says domestic violence is not just physical, but can be mental and financial.

"This issue is very important because it affects our entire community," said Parks. "Children are affected by it, businesses are affected by it, hospitals, consider the cost of when somebody is hurt and they have to go into the hospital."

The WCC has two shelters for women and their children in northern Kentucky.
