Toledo may ban smoking for government employees

TOLDEO, Ohio (WKRC) -- If you smoke, you may not be able to get hired in Toledo.

The city government is trying to go completely smoke-free.

It is considering a move to make tobacoo users ineligible for employment in any government facility.

Toledo's Mayor, Michael Collins, says the policy would help lower the city's health care cost.

"What do I say to those who seek future employment? Just think about the health that you are engaging in and practice," said Collins. "Are you realistically willing to say, I don't want to be a cigarette smoker, I don't want to be a tobacco product user?"

The policy could be in place sometime this month. It would not affect current city employees who are tobacco users.
