Symphony adds access to hugely popular event

CINCINNATI (Joe Webb) -- The Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra expanded access to Lumenocity 2014.

Last month, the 37,000 free tickets for the event disappeared in just 12 minutes.  Here are the bullet points.

  • 3,300 additional free tickets are available through a drawing.
  • People have to register online.
  • Local 12 will tell you how
  • 5,000 tickets are now available for the Thursday night dress rehearsal

CET will broadcast the Saturday show and the Sunday night show will be simulcast at Riverbend and Fountain Square.  Plus, even if people don't have a ticket, there will be plenty to do at Lumenocity 2014.

"We, quite frankly, didn't expect all 35,000 tickets to be accessed in 12 minutes.  So we went back to the drawing board to see how can we make more people, get more people access to the event," said Trey Devey, CSO President.

While the symphony was trying to make room for more eyeballs, the folks at Brave Berlin were busy figuring out how to entertain them.  Kate Coslett, Steve McGowan and Dan Reynolds were designing Lumenocity 2014.  The "Gee Whiz" projection mapping to music will be the centerpiece.  But this year there will be a festival atmosphere, too.  The south side of Washington Park will become Lumenocity Village.

Kate Coslett said, "The village is going to be a collection of local artisans and local food vendors.  A lot of food trucks."

No ticket necessary and it will be open all day, all three days.  The tag line for 2014 will be "A City Inspired."  The designers were inspired by what worked in last year's show and are building on that.

Steve McGowan said, "It was so funny with social media we were able to see in real time the emotion based on things that were done in the show. This year we're amping that up."

Dan Reynold's said, "Every little chance that we've had to inject something new and inject some sort of surprise we've been looking for those moments."

Lumenocity 2014 is August 1, 2 and 3.  That's Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The dress rehearsal is Thursday, July 31.  You can get in the drawing for tickets by going to the Lumenocity website.  Four tickets per household and the winners will be announced July 21.
