SCPA teacher wins California ultramarathon

DEATH VALLEY, California (WKRC) -- Cincinnati resident and SCPA teacher, Harvey Lewis, has won a 135-mile ultramarathon in California.

Runners cover the distance over two to three days in triple-digit heat.

According to Lewis' Facebook page, he has been working towards this since seeing a documentary on Badwater eight years ago. He finished the grueling run in just under 24 hours and more than 45 minutes ahead of the runner who finished second.

Only 97 runners signed up for Badwater. Two more are from the Tri-State. Craig Wheeler is from Burlington. He's still running and is in 30th place. John Corey from Cincinnati is also still running. He was in 69th place at last check.
