Recliner seating plan in the works for AMC

NEW YORK (WKRC) -- Recliner seating may soon be making its way to a theater near you.

AMC Entertainment revealed a $600 million plan to install more recliner seating.

According to AMC's CEO Gerry Lopez that plan will cover about 36 percent of its theaters.

"The company plans to spend about $600 million over the next five years to 'reseat' 1,800 of its nearly 5,000 screens. The renovations typically cost $350,000 to $500,000 per auditorium, with landlords often shouldering some of the cost."

Lopez also addressed concerns about increased ticket prices due to the renovations.

According to CEO Lopez, "AMC typically doesn't change ticket prices in the first year after construction to 'seed' behavior, but the admission fee goes up in subsequent years. Then, if a regular theater raises ticket prices 25 cents, tickets to a reseated auditorium might go up $1 or $1.25."
