So Cincinnati: Rozzi's Famous Fireworks

CINCINNATI (Joe Webb) -- The Fourth of July was a big family day but it was the biggest day of the year for one Cincinnati family.

The Rozzi family of Rozzi's Famous Fireworks, build their entire year around one day.  They've been making fireworks and launching displays for 125 years and July 4 they did it all again.  Whether it was the big shells that lit up Blue Ash or the small stuff for the backyard, the Rozzi family was working Friday to make everyone's family's Fourth of July weekend special.  The same thing they did for the tri-state's parents, grandparents and great-grandparents.

Nancy Rozzi, Angela Rozzi Burns, Grace Burns and Paula Rozzi Lutz are four women who represent the fourth and fifth generations of Rozzi's Famous Fireworks.  Nancy and her brother, Joe, run the company their great-grandfather Paolo brought from Italy to America.  Their grandfather, Arturo, moved to suburban Cincinnati in 1930.

They came in with a bang and have been blowing holes in the tri-state ever since.  When your primary tool is a mortar, your work gets a lot of attention.  But Friday's fireworks were a lot more than powder and fire.  Red, White and Blue Ash had intricate shells, many fired at angles, digitally synched to a music track.

There are 80 Rozzi fireworks shows surrounding the Fourth of July and countless others in cul-de-sacs, sideyards and driveways.  The Rozzi's commercial fireworks is a big business and a truly family business.  Grace Burns learned early on that if you're a Rozzi, your family's fourth was a bit different from your friends.

It would be hard to imagine a tri-state Fourth of July any other way than lit up by some Rozzi magic.  Thanks to a family that is so Italian, creating art that is all-American and making memories that are So Cincinnati.

The biggest show for the Rozzi's in 2014 will be the Riverfest fireworks.  They've done the show since EBN started them in 1977.
