"Grillin' with Tim" helps congratulate a literacy dream come true

CINCINNATI (Deb Dixon) -- "Justina Tooson" was the name on the winning entry form for Grillin' with Tim in June.
Local 12 didn't know that when Tim Hedrdick read her name out loud it was about something much bigger than food and fun.  A dream came true.  Not the grilling part, (sorry Tim) it had to do with the entry form winner Justina Tooson filled out herself.

Justina just learned how to read and write.  She was taken out of school at a young age because of epileptic seizures.

She said, "I really thought, 'I don't know if they're going to be able to read it or not.'  They read it on TV, 'Justina Tooson!'"

Justina bought Professor Phonics teaching books at Shillitos decades ago.  She carried them with her for years.  They were with her in the library at Stonebridge Scenic Retirement Community when former nun Joan Schuler came in to the facility.  She used Professor Phonics when she taught school.

Schuler said, "I saw her with those books sitting here on table, Professor Phonics.  She said, 'I bought them, I'm going to find to find somebody who can teach me how to read.'"

Justina remembers clearly what Joan said next, "'If you want to learn how to read I can help you because I used to be a teacher.'  And so she started helping me.  That is what I wanted all my life, for someone to help me."

When Justina was recognized for bringing Grillin' with Tim to the retirement community Tim had no idea what a big win it really was.
