Video reportedly shows kidnapped Nigerian girls

NIGERIA (WKRC) -- A video released Monday shows the first images of Nigerian school girls captured by the terrorist group Boko Haram.

The terror group claims the girls are safe and will be returned in exchange for their militants being held in Nigerian jails. However, the video's authenticity has not been confirmed. It's not clear when the video was recorded.

The video includes Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau's first online appearance since claiming responsibility for the mass-kidnapping and threatening to sell the girls into slavery.

Boko Haram kidnapped about 300 girls from their school more than four weeks ago. The U.S., Britain and other nations have ramped-up efforts to help the Nigerian government find and rescue them.

Experts have expressed concern that many of the kidnapped girls may already have been smuggled across nigeria's borders into Chad, Niger or Cameroon.
