Man and toddler hurt in Burlington fire

BURLINGTON, Ky. (WKRC) -- A Burlington family is thanking a family friend for saving a little boy with Down syndrome from a house fire.

Neighbors of Ray Arnold say he was frying up fish at about 8:30 Monday night at his home on Sentry Drive,  when the grease caught fire. According to a neighbor, Arnold tried to run the burning pan out the door, but slipped and the living room caught fire.

That's when family friend, Jay Schultz, came in the house through the back door. Arnold yelled for Schultz to run upstairs and grab his son, two-year-old Micah, who has Down syndrome.

Schultz emerged from the house covered in black soot but with Micah in tow. A neighbor, who's a nurse, came over and gave Arnold first aid. He had first and second degree burns.

Arnold and Micah were  both taken to the hospital to be checked out but both are expected to recover.
