Baby giraffe at Cincinnati Zoo has a name
CINCINNATI (WKRC) -- The Cincinnati Zoo says the public has spoken and the baby giraffe has been named Nasha.
The female giraffe was born Monday to Tessa. Nasha is already 154 pounds and she's spending time bonding with her mom in their indoor stall. Zoo visitors can see them through the windows. They'll make their public debut outside in the next few weeks.
Seven thousand name suggestions were given through Facebook and Twitter. Zoo giraffe keepers selected their top four favorites and left it up to the public to vote. They were Amaya, Akila, Alia and Nasha. After 3,700 votes, Nasha was the winner with 32%. Nasha is the Massai word for "one who comes with the rains".
