Police find body on Middletown trail
MIDDLETOWN, Ohio (Larry Davis) -- Middletown police are investigating a suspicious death after a body was found on trail.
Police were called to the area of Ninth Avenue and Maple Street shortly after 8:30 a.m. Sunday. When they arrived, they found a man's body on a path that's part of the Great Miami River Recreational Trail. A large amount of blood was also found nearby.
Investigators now know that 25-year-old William Tyrone Sawyer was the victim found in a pool of blood Sunday. Police say he had no known enemies and are wondering what Sawyer was doing alone on the bike path in the middle of the night.
Relative of the victim, Maronda Craft, said, "He was a dad, he was a son. And he was a brother, and he will be greatly missed."
Craft and her sister say they are stunned and saddened by the death of Sawyer. The man was the father of a 5-year-old little girl. Police believe he was murdered on the bike path around midnight on Sunday. His body was discovered that morning.
Police say he had no real criminal history, "Nobody is aware of any enemies, any people he is arguing with currently."
Family members say Sawyer was quiet and kept to himself. Community members cannot figure out why such a horrible crime would happen in their area.
The Butler County Coroner conducted an autopsy on Monday. No ruling of how the victim died has been released.
There is still a lot of mystery surrounding Sawyer's death. Anyone with information on the man's death is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 352-3040.
