Council member announces Domestic Partner Registry

CINCINNATI (WKRC) -- Gay and lesbian couples will soon be able to register as part of a Domestic Partner Registry in Cincinnati. Chris Seelbach made the announcement Tuesday.

Seelbach says a super majority on Council and the mayor have signed the motion to create the registry. This allows those companies, who want to offer equal partner health insurance, to determine eligibility.

Seelbach says the registry is not about forcing companies to offer equal partner benefits. The registry is just providing a tool for businesses that do.

Seelbach says couples will have to pay $45 to register. That should allow it to pay for itself.

The administration will report back to council with details to implement the genderneutral registry. Council is expected to vote on final approval in the next few months.
