Clermont Dad Convicted on Abuse Charges

CLERMONT COUNTY, Ohio (WKRC) -- An adoptive father is facing prison time after being convicted of harming his 11-year-old son.

A judge found 46-year-old John Kelley guilty of child endangering and felonious assault.  Kelley and his wife adopted the boy after serving as his foster parents for almost a year.  The family lives in Amelia.

Prosecutors say the boy ran to a neighbor's home for fear he'd be struck by Kelley.  They say Kelley used a belt and a paddle on the boy, causing extensive bruising.

The youngster suffers from post traumatic stress disorder.  He threw tantrums and urinated in the home.  Prosecutors say Kelley took the boy to a local Kroger and forced him to wear a sign which read, "I pee on my family if I don't get my way."

Kelley faces 2 to 8 years in prison when he's sentenced next month.
