American Support for War in Afghanistan Falls Below 20 Percent
UNDATED (WKRC) -- A new national poll suggests the war in Afghanistan could be the most unpopular war in US history, even more than Vietnam.
The CNN survey found support by Americans for the war in Afghanistan has dipped below 20 percent. Just 17 percent of those questioned say they support the 12-year-long war. That's down from 52 percent five years ago and lower than support recorded during the famously divisive Vietnam War.
Opposition to the war in Afghanistan stands at 82 percent, up from 46 percent in 2008. Some 2,300 US troops have been killed in Afghanistan since the war began.
The US is scheduled to remove all combat troops by December 2014. But that pullout could happen sooner if a new security agreement isn't signed in the near future.
