Answering Obamacare Questions Part II

WASHINGTON, D.C. (WKRC) -- 12 News and our Sinclair sister stations have been soliciting your questions about the healthcare exchange rollout this week.  We asked national correspondent Kristine Frazao to find the answers to your questions.

Challenges continue for people across the country.  Even though we've known the law was going to be implemented for more than a year, some very basic questions remain.

Janet in Pensacola, Florida, a viewer of WEAR-TV wants to know if she'll lose her private insurance and medicare?

Ed Kafes, an insurance broker for Interstate Health, says,"No, she won't lose either.  Her private insurance could be an advantage plan or it could be a Medicare supplement and a drug card.  She will not lose either."

We go to Nashville, Tennessee  and WZTV viewer Judith is having trouble signing up online.  What are her options?

"You don't have to worry about signing up online.  The same plans are available off-line."

Adam in San Marcos, Texas a viewer of KEYE-TV wants to know what happens if he requires more insurance than his medicare plan provides.

"He's got Medicare a and b, there's a cost for Medicare b.  Its means tested, it could be there's a cost for Medicare b.  It could be expensive or it could be free.  Medicare b could be as much as 350 dollars a month for a high income individual.  But does he need more insurance?  Medicare supplements pay what Medicare doesn't pay."

From Vero Beach, Florida where Dolly watches WPRC-TV, she wants to know about navigators, what are they and where do you find one?

"Navigators are paid by the state in which they operate to help consumers choose a plan that will be best suited for them.  They are not licensed agents.  They can be contacted through the health insurance site of that state."

Undoubtedly the questions will keep pouring and we will continue to report on the major issues associated with the rollout of Obamacare.
