Fatal Train Accident in West Virginia

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - Authorities say crossing signals were still flashing when they arrived at the scene of a fatal collision between a log truck and sightseeing train.

The truck driver was killed and 23 people were injured, six seriously, in the accident atop Cheat Mountain, about 160 miles east of Charleston.

Officials say the driver who was pronounced dead at the site apparently ran through the crossing signals.

The accident occurred during prime leaf-watching season in the heavily forested eastern part of the state.

Randolph County Sheriff Mark Brady says two of the train's passenger cars flipped on their sides after impact at a rail crossing on a mountain highway, and the log truck was a "total loss."
