CYNTHIANA, Ky. (WKRC-TV)  Two sisters who decided to go out school shopping are recovering from serious injuries after they were struck by a car in Northern Kentucky.

Investigators said the accident happened around 3:30 a.m. Thursday on U.S. 27 in Cynthiana.

Cynthiana Police said the driver, Larry Baldwin, told police he was headed home from work and fell asleep at the wheel. Police said Baldwin told them he awoke after hitting rumble strips at which point he struck the sisters, who were walking alongside the highway.

Police said that 19-year-old Chelsea Napier and her 12-year-old sister are being treated at the University of Kentucky Medical Center with serious injuries after being struck on the side of a road.
