Government Shutdown Day 4
WASHINGTON, D.C. (CBS) -- President Obama stepped out for lunch at a local sandwich shop.
But has no immediate plans to sit down at the table with Republicans to end the partial government shutdown.
He says, "I'm happy to have negotiations but we can't do it with a gun held to the head it with a gun held to the head of the American people."
An agitated House Speaker John Boehner once again pointed the finger at Senate Democrats and the White House.
Boehner said, "This isn't some damn game. The American people don't want their government shutdown and neither do I."
House Republicans continue to push legislation to reopen parts of the federal government. Including the Veterans Administration, the National Institutes of Health, and the Parks Department.
The House will be in session over the weekend to continue to press this strategy. Senate democrats are having none of it. \
Some 800,000 federal workers remain off the job and without pay. The house has a bill to give them back pay that the White House and Democrats do support once the government shutdown ends.
