Investigators say Suspect Targeted TSA Agents in Shooting at LAX
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (WKRC) -- Investigators say the 23-year-old who opened fire inside the Los Angeles airport wanted to kill TSA agents.
Police also say Paul Anthony Ciancia sent a text message to his family that he was going to kill himself. That was before he took a semi-automatic rifle out of a garment bag and started firing.
When it was over, three TSA agents were hurt and one was killed. 39-year-old Gerardo Hernandez is the first TSA officer ever killed in the line of duty.
Witnesses say the scene at the airport was chaotic.
"I didn't see his face. I just saw the gun and I was just terrified - like everybody else was. we were just on the ground."
"Right when I heard the shots, I looked over my shoulder and everybody was running towards me saying run, run!'"
Friday night employees are being let back into two closed terminals and the FAA has lifted its "ground stop" order, meaning airliners are now being allowed to resume flying to LAX.
