Alleged Killer of 14-Year-Old Arrested
SOUTH FAIRMOUNT, Ohio (Rich Jaffe) -- A murdered 14-year-old boy is being laid to rest Monday afternoon while a man charged with his murder is behind bars, but this investigation is far from over.
Dwayne Lewis's funeral is underway right now at the St. Mark AME Zion church on Daly Road.
Lewis was shot and killed last week in South Fairmount and police have arrested Julius White for the murder but they're not talking much about the case.
Local 12 News reporter Rich Jaffe reports from the Justice Center where White's being held Monday night.
This afternoon the Hamilton County prosecutor filed a new charge against Julius White-kidnapping. He was already charged with aggravated murder in the death of Dwayne Lewis.
Investigators are being pretty tight lipped about this case, possibly waiting for it to go to the grand jury later this week.
While most people know this community as Hawaiian Terrace, since his death the tiny area where Dwayne Lewis lived has been dubbed "Wayne's World."
The signs of shrine are everywhere as is the spray paint. Many of those who knew and liked the boy known as Li'l Wayne even sported shirts and sweatshirts memorializing him.
Marcus Adkins says, "He was cool...he was just chillin...you see him he'd shake your hand. He was cool with everybody. He'd be cool with you right now if he was here."
Lewis was shot and killed last Wednesday night at Blaine and Knox streets in South Fairmount.
While police still aren't talking about motivation, they've arrested 24-year-old Julius White charging him with aggravated murder in the case.
White has a long criminal history including a prison stint in 2009 for trafficking in heroin.
Local 12 was in court in 2008 when he showed up charged with felonious assault for allegedly shooting a man in the stomach.
While that case was dismissed, he also had 29 other charges waiting in the wings.
What's not clear yet is what his connection was to Dwayne Lewis and what could possibly explain the murder of a 14 year old boy.
Rich Jaffe asked Sala Grimes, "Is anybody, cops, prosecutors anybody on any level ever going to be able to explain it so that it makes sense to you guys in this community?"
She replied. "No, it don't make sense. For somebody to be so young to just die like that. It don't make sense."
Police are trying to sort through a long list of stories connected to the kidnapping and murder of Dwayne Lewis. While exactly what happened is not clear at this point, at least Julius White is off the street.
As police try to sort through the various stories, they're hoping you can help and there certainly could be additional arrests in this case.
If you have any information that could help them with the investigation call Crime Stoppers at 352-3040.
