President Set To Meet With Republicans As Second Day of Government Shutdown Ends

WASHINGTON, D.C. (WKRC) -- The President will meet face to face with Republicans as the government shut down ends its second day.

President Obama is set to meet with House Speaker and West Chester Congressman John Boehner and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky at the White House Wednesday.  It was the first meeting between the two sides since Congressional Republicans failed to approve a budget bill by midnight Tuesday, forcing the government to shut down.

Both sides are at loggerheads over the Affordable Care Act.  The law went into effect Tuesday.  But Republicans in Congress want the President to delay it for one year in exchange for passing a previously agreed upon budget.

Republicans say the law that was passed by Congress and ruled constitutional by the Supreme Court is in Boehner's words, Not ready for prime time.

The White House says defunding a law that has already passed legislative and judicial review is non-starter.

The website for the Affordable Act has encountered some glitches as millions have tried to sign up for the healthcare exchanges since Tuesday.
