14-year-old Accused of Killing Teacher
DANVERS, Mass. (WKRC) -- A student at a high school in north eastern Massachusetts is accused of murdering one of the school's math teachers.
A 14-year-old boy is held without bond and will be charged as an adult for the murder of a teacher in his school.
Philip Chism was arraigned on a murder charge. He's accused of killing 24-year- old Colleen Ritzer.
Ritzer was a math teacher at Danvers High School outside of Boston. Police say both Chism and Ritzer went missing Tuesday. They searched the school and discovered blood in the second floor bathroom.
Police secured the school and found Ritzer's body in the woods behind it.
Essex County District Attorney, Jonathan Blodgett, said, "She was a very, very respected and loved teacher. 24-years of age and as I said, this is a terrible tragedy for the entire Danvers community."
Chism was found this morning walking on a nearby highway and arrested. Police are not saying how Ritzer was killed.
Her family released a statement praising her passion for teaching and asking for privacy.
Chism will be back in court November 22nd.
