Ohio Food Stamp System Down

CINCINNATI (WKRC) -- Local 12 News received several calls about people unable to use their Electronic Balance Transfer Cards (EBT) / Food Stamps Saturday.

Reports of the system problem were reported in 16 states.

According to the Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services the problem occurred around 11:00 a.m. Saturday morning when a system that deals with the transactions made by EBT Cards stopped working.

In a statement released from the Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services, the system made by Xerox had been fixed but the EBT portion of the system was no yet operational.

The statement went on to say that retailers have been advised to process transactions manually. That means the people who use SNAP can spend up to $50 until the system is back online.

SNAP customers should call the 1-800 number on the back of their card to get help on how to complete their purchases.

There has been no word on when the system should be back online.
