Cincinnati Man Who Challenged Same-Sex Marriage Ban Dies

CINCINNATI (WKRC) -- A Cincinnati man who was part of a couple challenging Ohio's Ban on gay marriage, has died.

The attorney who represented John Arthur and James Obergefell confirmed to Local 12 that Arthur passed away. He suffered from ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease.

Arthur and Obergefell married last June in Maryland. They sued to force the state to list the couple as married on Arthur's death certificate, once he passed away.

U.S. District Judge Timothy Black found in favor of the couple and issued a temporary restraining order on Ohio's ban of same-sex marriage.
