La Salle Will Start Mandatory Drug Testing of Students

GREEN TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WKRC) -- La Salle High School says it will start mandatory drug tests of its students beginning in the 2014-2015 school year.

According to school officials, La Salle will be only the second Ohio high school to do so. By instituting mandatory testing, officials at the Catholic school say it takes away the peer pressure and gives them a reason to say 'no'.

A release from the school says Psychemedics Corporation will test students' hair for drug use. If a student tests positive, he will be required to get counseling. Students who refuse the test, will be counted as a positive result. Those students will be tested again about 100 days later. If the student tests positive again, he'll be expelled.

A voluntary program is being put into place for the current school year.
