Avondale Native Witnesses Navy Yard Shooting

AVONDALE (WKRC) -- A tri-state native was working just blocks away when the shots on the Navy Yard were fired.

Cherie Bassette is originally from Avondale.  She has worked in Washington DC for the last seven years. Currently, she works at "DC Child and Family Services Agency."

She says her building was put on lock down immediately.

"We all went to the windows because at our windows, we can see pretty much over to the Navy Yard.  We could see all these cop cars, and helicopters.  That's where we were all day, we just kept watching the cop cars and the helicopters."

"It was a little scary because I was just wondering how the people were that were shot, or who had been shot, and how they were."

Bassette said she got dozens of calls, texts and emails from friends and family, making sure she was alright.
