Judgment Passed on Priest Accused of Rape
CINCINNATI (WKRC) -- A Priest accused of raping a 10 year old boy has been found guilty.
Father Robert Poandl's verdict was delivered Friday just after 2:30p.m. He was on trial for allegedly taking a boy to West Virginia for sex more than two decades ago.
SNAP, Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests, sent a press release saying, "We are grateful that Fr. Robert Poandle has been found guilty to sexually abusing a 10 year old boy."
The organization is worried, however, that Fr. Poandl may receive a light sentence.
"It's crucial that the justice system has accurate information about Fr. Poandle and his crimes so that he can be appropriately sentenced. So it's important that every single person who saw, suspected or suffered his crimes now come forward to prosecutors."
SNAP reports that Church officials moved Fr. Poandl about 30 times in 44 years, sometimes to the same location twice. Bishops in every diocese where he worked are being encouraged to reach out to others who may have been assaulted.
These dioceses include New Orleans LA, Atlanta GA, Tulsa OK, Savannah GA, Jackson MS and Harrisburg PA.
