NY Speeder Busted After Video Goes Viral
New York City Police have put the brakes on an alleged speed demon whose dash cam video went viral.
The suspect claims to have broken the speed record for doing a lap around Manhattan.
He validates his claim with a video of his lap around Manhattan captured on his dashboard camera.
In the video you can see him speeding and weaving on roads not designed for that. His video was posted to YouTube in its entirety.
This is called outlaw racing. Along a 26 and a half mile route around Manhattan, the driver ran one red light, stopped at six.
He added the music of Afrojack when he posted his record 24-minute drive. His average speed worked out to around 66 miles per hour.
Days after the video went viral, 30-year old Christopher Tang was arrested and charged with speeding, reckless driving, unsafe lane changes, following too closely, and reckless endangerment.
Police confiscated his 2006 BMW Z4.
Police credit being able to catch this now internet celebrity by using license plate readers that are positioned in the city.
