Lakota Grad Helps on Coast Guard Rescue

BAHAMAS (WKRC) -- A local man helps in the rescue of two fishermen who were stranded in the Atlantic Ocean for eight days.

A Coast Guard rescue team found them after being alerted by a cargo ship.

Lieutenant Mark Aguilar, a 2002 graduate of Lakota East, was on that team.

The fishermen, both from the Bahamas, were clinging to their overturned boat.  They were stranded in the middle of the Gulf Stream, about thirty miles off shore between Florida and the Bahamas and running out of time.

Aguilar was one of the pilots on board the rescue chopper.

The two rescued men are recovering at a Florida hospital. They will have help getting back to the Bahamas once they are released.
