Prosecutor: Kings Island Suspect Tried To Snatch Toddler
The Mason City Prosecutor says a Texas man arrested in the parking lot of Kings Island amusement park last week was videotaping children with a special camera mounted in his eye glasses. The prosecutor also told a judge on Monday that 37 year old Rodney Grisham tried grab a two year old child from the child's older sibling.
A judge today decided to keep Grisham' s bond at $200,000 cash because of the prosecutor's fears that Grisham may have intended to abduct a child. Also a factor-Grisham reportedly told the arresting officer that he intended to bond out, leave the state, and never come back.
Grisham, a native of Dallas, was arrested on July 3rd, and is facing charges of having a weapon under a disability.
Officers say they responded to to Kings Island for a report of a suspicious person. When they approached Grisham, he admitted to having a loaded weapon in his tractor trailer.
Witnesses say he stood out because of his behavior-and because he tried to grab a two year old from the child's sibling. The sibling refused to let the toddler go-and ran and told his father what happened.
Prosecutors also say he was wearing sunglasses fitted with a video recorder and was videotaping kids inside the park for most of the day.
In addition to weapons, officers found an ax, a taser, and toys in his vehicle. Prosecutors say he has a prior sex offense charge on his record, but it was plead down because the victim did not want to testify.
Grisham will appear in court again on Thursday.
