Ottawa, ON (Sports Network) - Ottawa Senators defenseman Jared Cowen will be sidelined 6-to-8 months following surgery to repair a torn labrum in his left hip.

Cowen is expected to make a full recovery from Saturday's procedure in New York.

Selected ninth overall by Ottawa in 2009, the 21-year-old Cowen played in all 82 games last season as a rookie, posting five goals and 12 assists.

In three games this season with the Binghamton Senators of the American Hockey League, Cowen recorded three assists.
