Detroit, MI (Sports Network) - The Detroit Red Wings placed rookie defenseman Brendan Smith on injured reserve Monday.

The 23-year-old Smith could miss 3-to-4 weeks with a shoulder sprain, an injury he suffered during the first period of Saturday's 4-2 loss at Columbus.

Smith, selected by Detroit in the first round (27th overall) of the 2007 draft, has one assist and a plus-4 rating in eight games this season.

The Wings also recalled goaltender Petr Mrazek and forward Tomas Tatar from Grand Rapids of the American Hockey League.
