Islanders place Carkner on IR

Uniondale, NY (Sports Network) - The New York Islanders on Friday placed defenseman Matt Carkner on injured reserve with a groin injury.

The move is retroactive to Feb. 6.

Carkner has zero points and 20 penalty minutes in nine games this season, his first with the Islanders.

In 29 games with the Senators last season, Carkner had one goal and two assists to go along with 33 penalty minutes.
