Toronto, ON (Sports Network) - The National Hockey League on Friday handed down a two-game suspension to New York Islanders assistant coach Brent Thompson.

The 42-year-old drew the ban after he was given a game misconduct for abusive comments directed to officials, violating Rule 39.5, during Thursday's 2-1 overtime loss to the New York Rangers.

Thompson will not be eligible to return until the Isles play at Tampa Bay on Mar. 14.
