Raleigh, NC (Sports Network) - The Carolina Hurricanes placed defenseman Justin Faulk and forward Chad LaRose on injured reserve Wednesday.

The team announced earlier in the day that Faulk, a second-year defenseman, was diagnosed with a second-degree sprain of the medial collateral ligament which will not require surgery.

Faulk, who was injured in Tuesday's loss to Florida, has three goals and seven assists in 28 games this season.

LaRose hasn't played since March 3 after suffering a concussion. Prior to the setback, the 30-year-old winger totaled just two goals and one assist in 19 games.

To fill one of the roster spots, Carolina recalled defenseman Brett Bellemore from Charlotte of the American Hockey League.
