Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - The Philadelphia Flyers announced on Thursday the extension of defenseman Kimmo Timonen's contract through the 2013-14 season.

No financial terms were revealed, but previous reports cited the amount to be $6 million.

"We are pleased to announce that we have signed Kimmo Timonen to a one-year contract extension," Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren said. "Kimmo's presence on the ice for us and in our locker room is invaluable. We look forward to him continuing his all-around play for us."

Timonen has totaled one goal and five points in 10 games this season for Philadelphia, which has struggled to a 4-6-0 start to the truncated 2013 campaign.

The 37-year-old Finn has posted 28 goals and 211 points with a plus-38 rating in 407 regular-season games for the Flyers since arriving from Nashville in a July 2007 trade.

A former 10th-round pick of the Kings in 1993, Timonen made his NHL debut with the Predators in 1998 and has compiled 107 goals and 405 assists in 980 games for the Preds and Flyers over 14 seasons.
