New York, NY (Sports Network) - The National Hockey League announced on Tuesday it has fined Calgary Flames defenseman Mark Giordano $10,000.

The 29-year-old native of Toronto was punished financially for a slew-foot of Dallas Stars forward Antoine Roussel on Sunday, drawing a minor for tripping on the play.

According to Rule 52, "Slew-footing is the act of a player using his leg or foot to knock or kick an opponent's feet from under him, or pushes an opponent's upper body backward with an arm or elbow, and at the same time with a forward motion of his leg, knocks or kicks the opponent's feet from under him, causing him to fall violently to the ice."

Giordano is a first time offender, so under the terms of the existing Collective Bargaining Agreement, he could only be fined the lesser amount between $10,000 -- which goes to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund -- or one-half of a day's pay.
