Boston, MA (Sports Network) - The Boston Bruins announced on Thursday that the team has placed forward Chris Bourque on waivers for a purpose of assignment to Providence of the American Hockey League.

Bourque, the son of Bruins great and NHL Hall of Famer Ray Bourque, has played in 18 games with Boston this season and registered one goal and three assists.

The 27-year-old appeared on the ice during the team's morning skate on Thursday, but will be assigned to Providence if no other teams claim him by noon (ET) on Friday.
