Recap: Edmonton vs. Calgary

Edmonton, AB (Sports Network) - Sven Baertschi had a goal and an assist as the Calgary Flames handed the Edmonton Oilers a big blow to their playoff hopes with a 4-1 victory on Saturday.

Mikael Backlund, Dennis Wideman and Maxwell Reinhart scored for the Flames, who have won three of four. Joey MacDonald posted 28 saves in the win.

"We're doing little things right now that we weren't doing a month ago," MacDonald said.

Lennart Petrell scored the lone goal of the game for the Oilers, who have dropped five straight and are six points out of a playoff spot with seven games to play. Nikolai Khabibulin gave up all four goals on 38 shots.

"If you want to win games you have to play together and not care about your personal stats," said Edmonton defenseman Nick Schultz. "All the good teams do it for one another and want to win for the guy next to you and we're not doing that right now."

Backlund scored just 26 seconds in while Petrell answered 1:18 later to quickly tie the game.

The Flames took a 2-1 lead 1:55 into the second period on the power play when Tim Jackman took a lead pass at the blue line and bulled his way to the net from the left wing. His attempt was stopped, but Wideman was there to clean up the garbage.

Just over three minutes later, it was a 3-1 game after Baertschi's wrist shot from the slot went off the glove of Khabibulin and in.

Calgary took a 4-1 advantage halfway through the third as a turnover deep in the Oilers zone caused by Jiri Hudler saw him center the puck from the right boards and Reinhart put it home for his first NHL goal.
