Recap: Los Angeles vs. Dallas

Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - Jeff Carter scored with 51.4 seconds left in overtime to lift the Los Angeles Kings over the Dallas Stars, 4-3, on Sunday.

Carter had two assists for the Kings, who have won four of five and sit five points behind the Ducks for first place in the Pacific Division. Dustin Brown had two goals and Mike Richards had a goal and an assist.

Jonathan Quick made 24 saves in the victory.

"I think he's been really good for us lately and I think it's kind of on record of him saying that it's about winning games and us saying it's about giving us a chance to win," Kings coach Darryl Sutter said of Quick.

Alex Goligoski had a goal and an assist for the Stars, who are three points out of the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference. Antoine Roussel and Loui Eriksson also scored.

"Our work ethic was there as it has been for a while now so it's always good to see," Goligoski said. "Points are huge right now and battle back a little bit to get one point but we kind of let it slip right there, but we just got to move on and if we win these next three, we feel like we have a pretty good shot here."

Kari Lehtonen stopped 27-of-31 shots in defeat.

Brown put home a rebound from the left side to make it 3-3 at the 2:59 mark of the third period.

With less than a minute to play in overtime, Richards' shot deflected off Carter and past Lehtonen to give Los Angeles the victory.

Richards scored the game's first goal at the 5:06 mark of the first period. Dustin Penner made his way around the net before finding Richards, whose backhander beat Lehtonen.

At the 4:12 mark of the middle stanza, Brown's wrist shot from a sharp angle made it 2-0.

Just 20 seconds later, Eriksson chopped at a loose puck and the shot got past Quick.

Roussel put home a rebound at the 14:54 mark of the second frame to make it a 2-2 contest.

Goligoski gave Dallas its first lead of the game 43 seconds into the third. With Quick out of position, Goligoski scored into an open net.
