Recap: Calgary vs. Edmonton

Calgary, AB (Sports Network) - Nail Yakupov and Jordan Eberle each scored twice as the Edmonton Oilers eased past the Calgary Flames 8-2 on Wednesday.

Taylor Hall had a goal and four assists, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins added a goal and three helpers, and Ryan Whitney and Sam Gagner each tallied a goal and an assist for the Oilers, who moved into eighth place in the Western Conference with 39 points following the win. Edmonton now holds a one-point edge in the standings over the St. Louis Blues and Nashville Predators.

"Things went in for us, the guys are feeling confident," Oilers head coach Ralph Krueger said.

Devan Dubnyk turned away 15-of-17 shots in the win.

Matt Stajan scored a pair of goals less than three minutes apart in the first period for the Flames, losers in three straight.

Joey MacDonald made 31 saves, but allowed all eight goals in the setback.

Stajan lit the lamp 2:35 into the game with a wrister and added a backhander at the 5:18 mark to give the Flames an early 2-0 edge.

Gagner deflected a Jeff Petry shot, and Whitney tied the game with a snap shot with 7:01 remaining in the first period.

Yakupov scored his first goal of the game, a power play tally, just over 3 1/2 minutes into the middle session with a slap shot, and Hall's wrister, which also came on a power play, gave the Oilers a 4-2 edge.

Nugent-Hopkins cashed in on the power play with a slap shot with 10:09 left, and Edmonton led 5-2 entering the second intermission.

"They're dangerous on the power play and they certainly made us pay," Flames head coach Bob Hartley said.

Eberle scored a pair of goals in the third and Yakupov capped the scoring with a wrister with just 1:03 remaining.

Game Notes

The Oilers, who have won five straight, will visit Vancouver on Thursday ... Dennis Wideman and Curtis Glencross had assists for the Flames ... Calgary will visit San Jose on Friday.
