Recap: Los Angeles vs. Phoenix

Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - Jonathan Quick made 27 saves for his first shutout of the season as the Los Angeles Kings took a 4-0 win over the Phoenix Coyotes in the first of two games from Staples Center.

Anze Kopitar, Tyler Toffoli and Jeff Carter each posted a goal and an assist for the Kings, who have won two straight and four of six. Jake Muzzin also scored in the win.

"Our power play and our goalie was the difference in the game, I'm not sure how well we played," said Los Angeles head coach Darryl Sutter.

Mike Smith gave up four goals on 22 shots for the Coyotes, who have been held scoreless during a three-game losing streak. Jason LaBarbera played the final 12 1/2 minutes and stopped all seven shots he faced.

"We need some puck luck around the net," said Phoenix head coach Dave Tippett. "We are looking for any kind of break in front of the net. There's two ways to score: one is hard around the net or make a good skilled play. We didn't have enough skilled plays so we are looking for something around the net."

These two teams will meet again in Los Angeles on Tuesday.

Los Angeles took a 1-0 lead just 6:01 in on the power play after Kopitar sent a pass from the right boards to the left point where Muzzin's slap shot hit off a Coyote on the way to the net.

The score stayed that way until the 8:39 of the second period when the Kings took a 2-0 lead on another power play goal as Carter's slap shot from the left point was stopped, but Toffoli was at the left side to clean up the garbage for his first NHL goal.

"It was just a shot from the point and hit their D-man, and then Carter made a good play and put it between his legs and it just came right to me and I just shot it," said Toffoli.

Kopitar's snap shot from the top of the left circle on a rush play fooled Smith at the 6:22 mark, and Carter scored on a laser shot from the right wing on another rush just 1:11 later to chase Smith from the net.

Game Notes

Los Angeles has taken two of three from Phoenix this season ... Quick has 25 shutouts in his career, four against the Coyotes ... The Kings went 2-for-6 on the power play while Phoenix was 0-for-4.
