Recap: Phoenix vs. Dallas

Glendale, AZ (Sports Network) - Mike Smith posted 20 saves to lead the Phoenix Coyotes to a 2-1 win over the Dallas Stars on Saturday.

Shane Doan and Rob Klinkhammer each scored a goal for the Coyotes, who snapped a two-game slide.

Jaromir Jagr scored the only goal for the Stars, who had won three of four coming into the contest. Kari Lehtonen allowed two goals on 21 shots.

Phoenix got the only goal of the first period with 3:01 to play in the frame. Oliver Ekman-Larsson sent the disc from the right circle to the low right side where Antoine Vermette immediately passed it back out front and Doan one-timed it in.

The Coyotes made it a 2-0 game 7:31 into the second when the puck came out from behind the net to the right side where Boyd Gordon fired a pass over to the left and Klinkhammer fired it into the open net for his first NHL goal.

"That was great to get," said Klinkhammer. "You know I'm just trying to score a goal and help the team win, this one being the game-winner makes it even sweeter."

Dallas, though, cut into its deficit with 1:41 to play in the second. On the power play, Jagr's heavy wrister from the right circle beat Smith to the far side for his 10th goal of the season.

The Stars had 1:29 of a 5-on-3 in the second half of the final period, but were unable to get any quality chances before the advantage expired.

"Some nights it's not going to go in but when you have a 5-on-3 in the third as long as the one we had and you don't score, it's tough," said Dallas defenseman Stephane Robidas.

Smith need to make just four saves in the final frame to help Phoenix hang on for the win.

Game Notes

Both teams are back in action on Tuesday, as Dallas hosts Nashville and Phoenix hosts the Kings ... Jagr's goal was the 675th of his career ... Each team won twice in the season series ... Dallas was 1-for-5 on the power play while Phoenix went 0-for-2.
