San Jose, CA (Sports Network) - The San Jose Sharks have placed defenseman Brent Burns on injured reserve because of a lower body injury.

Burns was hurt during this past Saturday's game against Dallas and is expected to miss at least two games. He has failed to register a point in six games for the Sharks this season.

The Sharks recalled defenseman Matt Irwin from their American Hockey League affiliate in Worcester. Irwin appeared in nine games for the Sharks earlier this season and scored his first NHL goal on Jan. 26 against Colorado.
