Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - Los Angeles Kings defenseman Alec Martinez was placed on injured reserve Wednesday.

Martinez was hurt in Monday's 4-1 win against the Blues. He spent 1:35 on the ice before going down with an upper body injury.

Martinez is the third defenseman on the Kings team to suffer a significant injury. Matt Greene was injured in the season opener and required back surgery, while Willie Mitchell underwent knee surgery during the lockout and has yet to play this year.

The 25-year-old has one goal and two assists in 20 games this season.

In 126 career games, all with Los Angeles, Martinez has 12 goals and 18 assists.
