Frisco, TX (Sports Network) - The Dallas Stars placed forward Ray Whitney on injured reserve Saturday.

The 40-year-old suffered a lower-body injury, reported to be a hairline fracture in one of his feet. Whitney led the Stars with six points in eight games this season.

To fill the roster spot, the Stars recalled forward Reilly Smith from Texas of the American Hockey League. The 21-year-old has totaled 11 goals and 16 assists in 38 games this year.
