Recap: Atlanta vs. Utah
Atlanta, GA (Sports Network) - Devin Harris poured in a season-high 24 points to lead the Atlanta Hawks to a 103-95 win over the Utah Jazz on Friday at Philips Arena.
Harris, who returned to the lineup on Wednesday after missing 11 games with a right foot injury, went 7-for-8 from the field and 4-for-5 from behind the arc to help the Hawks snap a four-game skid.
Josh Smith had 15 points, 10 rebounds and six assists, Lou Williams dropped in 14 points and Ivan Johnson added 13 off the bench for Atlanta.
"It was one of our top games of the year. Obviously, coming off the losing streak, the way guys responded is something we need to do moving forward," Harris said. "We have to give credit to our bench, they really helped us out and played with a lot of energy."
Randy Foye dropped in 25 points, Al Jefferson had 23 points and 10 rebounds and Paul Millsap donated 20 points to go with 13 boards and five assists for the Jazz, who had won four of their last five entering the contest.
"Once you get up 15 (points) you can't stop doing what you were doing to get you that lead," said Utah coach Tyrone Corbin. "We got away from it, we thought the game was over."
Utah led 63-51 midway through the third quarter and used a 12-9 swing to go up 75-60 with 3 1/2 minutes left, but the visitors scored just one point the rest of the frame.
John Jenkins buried a 3-ball and three straight steals led to a 5-0 surge from the Hawks, cutting the deficit to 75-68. Hayward sunk a free throw following a defensive three second call on Johnson to send the Jazz into the final 12 minutes leading 76-68.
Atlanta used a 14-4 run to pull within 82-80 with 7:21 remaining in the fourth. Jamaal Tinsley buried a triple to put Utah up 85-80, but the Hawks scored five straight, capped off with a Harris trey, to knot things up at 85.
The teams traded blows from there until Johnson's circus layup with 1 1/2 minutes to go put the Hawks up 96-94. Al Horford grabbed a Milsap miss, passed it to Harris who turned and fired a beautiful cross-court pass to Johnson, who threw the ball up as he was falling to the floor. The ball rolled to the back of the rim, but dropped in to give the Hawks the lead for good.
A Tinsley free throw made it 96-95, but Smith's fadeaway, followed by a Williams trey, sealed it up for Atlanta.
Harris' free throws with 23.5 ticks left accounted for the final margin.
Foye poured in 15 points in the first to stake the Jazz with a 25-22 lead after the first 12 minutes.
An 8-4 surge in the opening minutes of the second stanza gave the Hawks a 31-29 lead, but Utah countered with a 12-8 push to go up 43-39 with just under four minutes left in the half.
Horford's hook shot a minute later made it a two-point game, but the Jazz scored four straight to push their spread to 47-41. Smith found Horford on a fast break alley-oop, but the Hawks couldn't cash in on a pair of opportunities in the final minute and went into the break down 47-43.Game Notes
